Horns Up Podcast: Episode 7

leave a comment »

Last week, I attended 3 shows in 4 days (Plini, Devin Townsend Acoustic and Control Alt Delete), don’t remember the last time I did that. Also managed to record 2 new episodes of the podcast, one of which is now online.

In the new episode of Horns up, our guest compared to our previous ones
is on the opposite end of the sound spectrum. We caught up with Australian guitarist Plini just before his gig in Bombay to chat with him about his journey, devoting time to the business side of things, new music, and, life.

Animesh and I discuss Devin Townsend and the experience of an intimate, acoustic gig.

Last week was a BIG one at Horns Up, we released 2 new episodes.

The first one is an in-depth conversation with Rotting Christ‘s founder and frontman Sakis Tolis delves deep into the creation process of the band’s fourteenth album Heretics, the decision to interpret and put their own spin on Edgar Allan Poe’s literary classic, ‘The Raven’, and the ever-evolving journey of the Greek Black Metal stalwarts since the band’s birth in 1987.

Sakis also reveals what it’s like to be in a band with his brother, and why India holds a special place in their lives.

The next one features Jason Netherton, the founder, bassist, vocalist and lyricist for American Death Metal act Misery Index. Jason talks about his journey to death metal and Misery Index, the band’s latest album Rituals of Power, and discuss why he thinks death metal is an ideal vehicle to communicate ideologies, opinions, and more.

We also discuss one of the recent news pieces in the metal sphere, the racist comments on Facebook by Former Agalloch and current Pillorian member John Haughm

Horns Up Podcast: Episode 4

New week and a new episode of Horns Up.

On this episode, Animesh and I speak to Kathir from The Wandering Ascetic & Rudra. He shares the creative process behind The Wandering Ascetic‘s debut album, Crimson and takes us back to his roots, including the journey of Rudra.

This episode is special to me as I discovered Rudra when I was just getting into extreme metal. The first album I heard by the band was their 3rd album, Kurukshetra and I remember buying the cd from Alex of Bloodbucket Productions.

Crimson is out via Transcending Obscurity next month. Listen to a couple tracks below

The episode features singles from upcoming releases from Indian Black Metal outfit Heathen Beast, and Astronoid, the band that put out one of my favourite releases of 2016.
